I picked the perfect time to upgrade my speakers

When I decided it was time to upgrade my 20 year old Infinity Entra speakers, I searched the offerings from multiple speaker manufacturers, ultimately landing on SVS. I watched endless Youtube videos, listened in store, read countless reviews and, due to space constraints in my family room chose the Prime Pinnacles. I probably would have gotten the Ultras, but where the Pinnacles ended up is a bit snug for the needs of the Ultra. As it turns out, it was a perfect choice! They sound fantastic, and I am hearing subtle areas in songs I have never heard before, as well as having a beautiful bottom end to the sound. As the title of my review says, I chose a perfect time to upgrade, as I am now off of work for most of the next month due to our state-wide shut-down, and have an opportunity to listen to a LOT of music, as well as watch movies with my wife. The speakers easily rise to the occasion for both uses. Playing cards has never been so fun! So thank you, Mr. Yacoubian, for making a quality product, both in looks and sound. I have loved the Prime Pinnacles so far, and look forward to many more years of listening nirvana! I have been collecting vinyl for 45 years, so I’ll definitely be putting them through a wide range of musical styles, from Bowie to Blaze Foley and everything in between. I took the grills off for the photo, but we keep them on for a cleaner appearance.

Thanks to the entire SVS team for helping me select such amazing speakers including the design team.

I know a little dramatic but it is true. The SVS Ultra Towers have changed my life listening to music. Thanks to the entire SVS team for helping me select such amazing speakers including the design team. I have had good equipment over the years but these are better. It is like I am listening to my music for the first time. Imaging is so good. If the recording is good, each instrument can be placed on the sound stage. I am not very good at describing sound but I could not be happier. I was concerned about my room size 9x16 and power 60w/ch but neither was an issue. Thank you.

If you are shopping for a 3 way tower speaker for $2,000 a pair and love bass, you have to check out the SVS Prime Pinnacles.

If you are shopping for a 3 way tower speaker for $2,000 a pair and love bass, you have to check out the SVS Prime Pinnacles. Right from the initial setup the bass came through loud and clear. I had each speaker in a corner about 15 inches from the front and side wall and they sounded great. No boom or mud, just clear bass. No need for port plugs. Must be due to the 3 rear ports, each tuned separately. SVS knows subwoofers and they know bass in towers. The midrange and highs were also good but the bass stood out to my ears. I listen to classic rock - The Who, Rush and the Beatles - where the bass needs to sound great or it doesn’t sound right. These speakers sound great! All the reviews and awards are spot on. Did a lot of online research and listened to other recommended 3 way towers. These are hard to beat. Ordered in the Piano Black (High Gloss finish) directly from SVS and they look tremendous! $200 more a pair than the black ash but worth every penny. The look and build is top notch. SVS customer service is also award-winning in my experience. They were great with the free 45 day in home trial. Free delivery and return if you’re not satisfied. Highly recommend the speakers and the company. A positive experience all the way around. Check out SVS and their Prime Pinnacle yourself.

FAQ

Tower speakers (aka floorstanding speakers) generally have more drivers and a larger cabinet than bookshelf or satellite speakers and thus are able to achieve greater dynamic range, deeper low frequency extension, and louder volumes. They also site directly on the floor and don’t require speaker stands or furniture, making them easy to place in a room. If you’re looking for a full-range speaker solution that doesn’t necessarily require a subwoofer, tower speakers are a great way to go. For information on how to choose between bookshelf and tower speakers, read more here: Choosing Between Bookshelf and Tower Speakers

Tower speakers are typically full-range loudspeakers used as the main left and right front speakers in a stereo or home theater surround sound system. Compared to soundbars they provide better overall stereo imaging (more on imaging here), as well as greater dynamic output and a broader soundstage because of the additional drivers and cabinet volume. For more information, read more here: 7 Reasons Why Home Theater Surround Sound Offers a Better Experience than a Soundbar.

As the name implies, floorstanding speakers (also referred to as tower speakers) are home theater or HiFi speakers that sit on the floor in front of the listener in a left/right array. In a home theater surround sound system, they often sit on either side of a dedicated center channel speaker making up the front stage. Normally they will be three feet or taller with the tweeter situated at ear level when a listener is sitting down. Most tower speakers require a separate AV receiver or power amplifier to operate. For a comparison of SVS Prime and Ultra Series floorstanding speakers, please visit here: Prime vs. Ultra: Which is Right for Me?

Floor-standing speakers don’t require stands or furniture because as the name implies, they stand directly on the floor. Because of the larger cabinet size, floorstanding speakers (or towers) have multiple drivers and more cabinet volume, allowing them to play louder with greater dynamic range/impact, and deeper low frequency extension. This means you don’t always need to combine towers with a subwoofer for full-range sound as you would with bookshelf or satellite speakers, which don’t produce as much bass.
